The International Herald tribune is reporting that my friends in VINASAT are ready to launch their VINASAT-1 satellite from the Arianespace Spaceport at Kouru in French Guiana.
A successful launch will mark the end of a long programme of effort by the Vietnam government, and the Vietnamese Post and Telecommunications Corporation (VNPT), to secure Vietnam's place amongst the geostationary satellite owning and operating nations.
The satellite will provide domestic and international telecommunications and broadcasting services to Vietnam and neighbouring countries.
I was involved in the early phases of the project, helping the Vietnamese administration with their orbital slot and frequency coordination, and it will be good to see the project coming to fruition.
I wish VNPT well for a problem-free launch.
